Say "genealogy" and many of us conjure up the image of an eccentric uncle plowing through dust-covered archives at the town library. But in today's high-speed, high-tech world of genome decoding and wireless broadband, genealogy has some new practitioners, and a new purpose.

Geneticists, mathematicians, and computer scientists are using the latest technology to dig way back and track down uber-ancestors; not filling in family tree blanks so much but tracing the origins and evolution of greater human kind.

And guess what. Not only are we all able to claim Africa as home, we're all related to royalty. We have the DNA to prove it! Searching the web, and poking in petrie dish for Charlemagne. Deep genetics, the new science, the new mindset, of genealogy.
