Historically, it should be the Democrats race to win. Midterm elections generally favor the party without the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But while much can change in the next five months, the traditional political winds don't seem to be holding for the Democrats against the great gale of presidential popularity. Some Democratic incumbents are going so far as to include President Bush in their campaign ads. Now that's bipartisanship. Meanwhile party strategists are still searching for the bumper sticker that will carry the day - and hoping the battleground will move from the war front and issues of homeland security - to the home front and issues of economic security.
