The Taming of Nancy Drew

Nancy Drew. Fiction's titian blonde with the blazing blue eyes. The teenage super sleuth with daddy, and everyone else, in the palm of her white-gloved hand.

Fetching and fearless, she's braved moss-covered mansions, shadow ranches, and mysterious bungalows all in the name of justice. And thank goodness. Because the bumbling police force of the imaginary, idyllic River Heights, USA just couldn't keep up.

But over the course of her seven-plus decades as the original face of Girl Power, Nancy Drew has reined it in a little. She's never broken the speed limit, not even in pursuit of a villain, but the later Nancy Drew was less sassy, less snobby, less interesting. From the bold and the beautiful to the bland and the boring.
