Okay, cut the fat jokes. Obesity has now been officially declared an epidemic. And with more than 60 percent of Americans weighing in over their recommended limit, the Centers for Disease Control is warning that obesity may soon surpass cigarette smoking as a major cause of preventable deaths in the United States.

Like smoking, obesity not only kills, it costs. Think $117 billion in public health dollars, says the CDC. The dangers of obesity has some in the public health saying, "forget Big Tobacco, it's time to go after Big Fat," namely all those fast food companies that make it their business to keep Americans stuffed full of greasy, unhealthy, unhappy, meals.
