"Christ" is the title of the book. It's designed to catch your attention. The subtitle is more revealing: "A Crisis in the Life of God". You may not be in the habit of thinking of God as having crises, of the "All Knowing" puzzling through a predicament. It makes perfect sense to writer Jack Miles. His new book picks up where his Pulitzer Prize winner left off. In "God: A Biography", Miles painted a psychological portrait of a troubled deity, based on an imaginative reading of Hebrew scripture.
Here, he turns to the New Testament, and finds God first humbling Himself and then, in effect, committing suicide. Heavy stuff, and all part of the debate about the nature of Christ that's engaged Christians and non-Christians for millennia.
