In the early 70's, a young American reporter took the insights learned in covering Vietnam and the politicians who took us there, and put it all in a book called "The Best and the Brightest." Twenty-nine years later, David Halberstam takes us back inside the White House and the Pentagon in his latest book, "War in a Time of Peace: Bush, Clinton and the Generals" with portraits of the people in power that have become his trademark.
His key characters, all of them with a history begun in the time of Vietnam, are familiar names. They are Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, and Donald Rumsfeld. Names at the forefront of a military attack that is underway as we speak.
