In the cacophony of calls for war and retribution, in the wake of polls showing that today 92 percent of the American public think the United States "should take military action against whoever is responsible for the attacks" on New York and the Pentagon...

At a time of willingness by so many to give war a chance, even if it means losing American lives, there are other voices saying "No!" No, to war in any form. Some are peaceniks who've protested every war since Vietnam. Others were little kids at the time of the Gulf War. Relatively few in number, they carry the weight of people like Martin Luther King who once said, "Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, in a descending spiral of destruction." Pacifism and dissent, when the drums of war are so captivatingly loud.
