Kermit the Frog felt it wasn't easy being green, but it may be a lot simpler - and a lot more profitable - than he thought.

"Green technologies" like solar cells, hybrid cars, super-fridges, and low-flow showerheads can minimize our impact on the environment and save money at the same time -- a lesson Americans would do well to think about as they f? Clean Energy on Earth Day 2000 this week.

The US is home to 5% of the earth's population but drinks up 25% of the world's oil, scribbles on 1/3rd of the world's paper, and throws out 2-3 times more garbage per person than Europe. With politicians from George W. Bush to Al Gore sitting in the pockets of industry, the environmental revolution may have to start in schools, churches, family rooms, and board rooms.

Forward-looking companies like Xerox, 3M, and Hewlett-Packard have already taken up the cause. Green Technology's call to arms in this hour of The Connection.
